Doug Swinton provides restoration of fine art for the public and galleries, following the guidelines of the Canadian Conservation Institute.

Below is a representation of paintings as they were in the process of being restored. The brighter and cleaner side of the painting has been restored while the other side has not.

Doug completed courses in art restoration through the Chicago Art Institute and The American Institute for Conservation (ACI).

The following are some of the services available:

  • Surface cleaning
  • Varnish coating and removal
  • Repairs of tears, rips, gouges, scrapes, cracks and punctures
  • Stretching, re-stretching and mounting
  • Re-painting of chipped, flaked, delaminating or peeling
  • Repair of powdering, cracking, blistering and blooms
  • Removal of hairs, dust scratches and dents in original paintings, lithographs, serigraphs, and limited edition prints
  • Panel repairs, inlay fillers
  • Repairs to frames, recasting, guilding and ageing

In all cases, artwork must be seen in person before a final quote can be given.
